Astronaut Scott Kelly and HoloLens:
When I saw the article and video of astronaut Scott Kelly and fellow crew members on the International Space Station playing with Microsoft’s new HoloLens I thought it was pretty cool, especially as he was fighting aliens! There are virtual reality headsets about, like Sony PlayStation VR or Oculus Rift, but the HoloLens overlays images onto the actual environment around you. It can do this because it projects light directly onto the player’s eyeball so augmenting their vision.
Scott said he could see some useful real life applications for the technology.
I was wondering where this might go in twenty years, will there be kinds of holographic lenses like contact lenses, doing the same job? What if you didn’t know they had been implanted and you responded to things that weren’t there, or didn’t see things that were there?
My fingers are already itching to dash off and write a SF murder mystery…
