Happy New Year!
I often find, in those moments, that I feel some tendrils of the year ahead briefly flavoring the cold air around me. They can be faint and elusive, but it is surprising how often, looking back at the end of the year, they fairly described the essence of the year for me.
There is a medieval curse “May you live in ‘interesting’ times.” Such I felt last year and wrote it down. It was so true for me.
This year I had the strangest fancy come to me. Not at all the usual vague feelings grasped and analyzed. It was, after a few moments, as if the faces of mankind coalesced into one mighty visage, facing out into space and thrusting forwards.
Is there some great task that unites us? We do it together, or we fail? I know not.
As I look up at the stars the world seems a part of a very big universe – not insignificant – but part of it, a player in the game. As if the old paradigms will no longer work. Like we must evolve, and do it now or be lost in a downward spiral.
I wish us all a Happy 2013.
